The other side of being a CEO (Chief Executive Officer)

This is a position which all of us want to achieve someday in life when
we start off with our careers. As we grow in the company, we keep a
watch on every information which comes from the CEO desk in
the company. The CEO (Chief Executive Officer) is an important
position in the company which drives the company to its desired goals
and success story. The CEO usually reports to the Board of Directors
of the company & is involved in high-level decision making about the
various strategies & policies that define the working of the company.

The CEO works with various department heads and is aware of
everything that’s happening within the company as he has to report
the same to the Board of Directors. We can also say that he is like
the lead actor on which the entire movie is dependent.

Role of a CEO
  • Making Major Decisions
  • Monitoring day to day Operations
  • Building a Healthy Work Environment
  • Motivating the Department Heads
  • Interacting with the employees through various channels (Town Hall, Intranet, Emailers, etc.)

Can we also call the CEO?
  • The seed of the Company’s Tree
  • Head of the Company’s Family
  • The main actor in the movie called Company (Organization)

Yes we can but it requires the CEO to have an HEO attitude in his
working style. As we are aware that with the use of modern tools for
judging the performance like the Balanced Scorecard and top
to bottom approach for driving the goals, it’s important that all
are inducted with the HEO attitude.

What is the HEO attitude?

The full form of HEO is “HELPING EACH OTHER”. I have worked in
a lot of company’s and worked with senior management as well but
I have also heard that everyone uses “Politics” to work with
each other. We learn a lot of things in an MBA about Employee
Engagement and various HR aspects which the course teaches
but when it comes to action we lose out.

These days with the growing cost and lot of work pressure,
the employees tend to break, which leads to a lot of
absenteeism, demotivated employees, lesser engagement
which does not allow the company to finally achieve its goals.

What can HEO (Helping Each Other) attitude do
·         Improve relations between departments
·         Give a family feeling
·         Align everyone to a common goal
·         Make the employee feel heard
·         It will help retain the good talent

After all, everyone needs love and respect. Since employees
spend almost 60% of the time working in a company wouldn't
it be nice if the CEO of the company has an HEO attitude &
drives the same within the organization. I am sure many
employees would love to work in such a company. The CEO
may retire someday but would definitely be remembered as
a PERSON
.
