Life is an Exam, isn’t it? Too many issues, too many problems, relationships seem conflicting, managing work, home and many other responsibilities has become a big challenge.
Is there an end to this or will we die of pressure and stress?
IAS exam in India stands for Indian Administrative Services and is the toughest exam to crack. The reason is that as an IAS officer you get all the privileges of the Indian Government and have access to all the top officials. An exciting prospect, isn’t it? The pay is also good.
However we won’t speak about the exam for IAS officer but would look at our life instead.
IAS - the 3 most important letters of each one’s life which decides the course of the life. Let’s look at them one at a time.
I – Intent
Do we need intent for doing anything in life?
Example
For being clean we have to brush, take bath, wear clean clothes, etc. Intent is what we want to do in life which is related to personal, professional or general life.
Intention can be further divided into 2 parts i.e. Positive and Negative intent.
Positive Intent
Things that we have positive intent for can be
· Better Life
· Better Relationships
· Better Job
· Better Physical Assets and many more…
Negative Intent
· Intent to hurt someone
· Intent to cheat
· Intent to be lazy
· Intent to not help others and many more…
In both the positive and negative intent, our inner self knows what we are doing but somehow though we may be successful in the negative intent, we sometimes lag behind in the positive intent.
Why can that be? Do you have any Thoughts on this?
This brings us to the second letter and this is where the problem arises.
A – Action
When I think of this word, it feels like “I am facing a camera” a movie shooting feeling. However Action may be a 6 letter word but it defines the 6 stages of our lives, toddler, student, youth, working life, family life and old age life. The intent of doing things is there in each phase of life but the action defines how the life will sail at each stage.
Action again can be divided into 2 i.e. AC action and FAN action.
Don’t be surprised with the words used here because it’s interesting to know the full forms. Just read on.
AC Action
AC word related to Air Condition which we may use at home. However the AC here stands for Accurate and Consistent. The competition is so cut throat in this world today that if our actions lack any of the 2 elements then it can lead to failure of disappointment. I don’t think anyone of us like to fail.
Example
You sell a product or a service
· You need to understand your customer
· You need to have the right products
· You need to back it with good customer service
· You need to collect customer feedback on regular basis
If you skip any of these and loose accuracy and consistency then your competitor may just put you behind.
These 2 elements are needed even in other aspects of life like
· Performing your home duties
· Paying your bills
· Travelling outstation, etc
FAN Action
FAN again is not the FAN that you have at your home. This FAN refers to Fear, Anxiety and Negativity. When we are given a task for the first time or when we have to do something we don’t like then the first feeling that enters our mind is Fear which leads to Anxiety and then the Negative thinking about the self which does not allow us to act with confidence.
In such a scenario, we need to understand that whatever we have done until now has been learnt by us so we can do anything. We should also put more effort in understanding and maybe make notes and then study the matter. Sit in silence for a few moments and tell to yourself that “It’s possible”. Then just put your best foot forward and do it.
What will this do?
· Break your fear
· Make you feel more confident
· Open up new opportunities for you
This will then lead you to the last alphabet which is S
S – Success
Not everyone reaches here but when one does reach here, the feeling is very satisfying. It is said that “The Fruit of Patience is Sweet” but it requires the A – Action to be very powerful. Many of us move from I to A but many get stuck in the second phase.
The definition of success also keeps changing in every age
· For a Student its passing exam
· For a Job Seeker its getting a Job
· For a Single person its getting a good life partner
· For Parents its giving their children good education
· For Old Aged people its living a healthy life
In this world, out of the 100% population if we have to divide the ratio then it would look like this
· 60% are in the Intent Stage
· 30% are in the Action Stage
· 10% are in the Success Stage
To move from Intent to Action
· Decide a timeline
· Start Taking Small Steps
· Keep a tab on the Action
To move from Action to Success
· Get Accurate and Consistent
· Move out of the comfort zone
· Develop a “Can Do” attitude
So that’s about the IAS of life which we all go through. None of us if perfect and may lag somewhere but together let’s try and create some magic in our lives and keep moving from Intent to Action and achieve the Success we all want to achieve.
Cheers and All the Best…
Well said sir
