Understanding Knowledge the way it is

We have read a lot about the term KNOWLEDGE in our schools,

colleges, universities and even when we work or do business we hear this term.

Is it important to be Knowledgeful? I am sure many of you would say yes and some

could even disagree if they did not know what’s the importance of this term?

Let’s look at a few questions first

1) Is information and knowledge the same?
2) Should I have knowledge related to my work only?
3) Why should I gain knowledge as people who have just done schooling are good
    businessmen?

These are questions that need clarification before we move ahead.

Information & Knowledge – The difference

Information and knowledge look like the same but they are definitely different.

Information is everywhere & available in abundance. How much of that you put to

work is what is called Knowledge.

Knowledge Related to Work

In this case the choice is completely yours & depends on your capacity. I am sure

if you have additional knowledge it doesn’t go waste. It may be of use to you some

time later but it can be of use to others. After all human life is all about growth and

contribution. Isn’t it?

Knowledge is not only studies

I am sure many of us have attended schools & colleges and gained a lot of

knowledge. The question though is how much of it are we able to implement while

in real work scenario? Knowledge is not limited to only studies. We need to keep

learning new things life-long & then implementing them.

A Short story on knowledge

Maria was an intelligent and hardworking girl who loved to read books and always

excelled in her academic tests. One day during a class lecture, Maria’s teacher

asked the students, “Do you have any power?”

To this one of the students who always got first position in the school’s racing

competition, raised his hand and said, “Yes ma’am my power is in my legs, I can

run very fast!”

“Ok. Anyone else?” the teacher looked around waiting for some other answers.

Maria then raised her hand and said, “Ma’am I have the power of knowledge.

Whatever I have learnt from reading books and listening to classroom lectures, all

this has contributed towards increasing my knowledge and giving me more

wisdom.” As Maria finished, everyone in the classroom burst into laughter and

made fun of her.

The next day when Maria went to school, she saw a note on the notice board. ‘Who

is the most intelligent student of our school?’ the headline read. The notice was

about the annual quiz competition. Maria beamed with joy as she had found the

way to prove to her classmates that she really does have a power — the power of

knowledge!

The competition was to be held after a month so Maria engrossed herself in reading

books of general knowledge. She studied day and night and was very confident on

the day of the quiz.

The competition began and Maria responded to all questions correctly. She won the

quiz contest with 100 per cent marks and got the title of ‘The most intelligent

student of the school’. Along with this title, she also got a trophy and two years’

100 per cent fee waiver.

The classmates of Maria were astonished at her success and were looking at her

with embarrassment on their faces.

Maria went towards them and said, “My dear friends, physical strength is not the

only power — real power lies in knowledge which does not weaken even with the

passage of time.”

If you would have realized after reading all this is that Knowledge is important but did you wonder why the title of this was “KNOWLEDGE is LAMP”

LAMP is divided into 4 words i.e. LIGHT, AWARENESS, MIGHT, POWER.

 For a blind man, Knowledge is Light

 For an inquisitive child Knowledge is Awareness

 For an Aged Person knowledge is Might

 For a young working professional or businessman Knowledge is Power

There are other powers also like Nuclear Power, Money Power, Status Power, etc.

but as we start to grow from childhood isn’t Knowledge the first power we get?

That’s why we pray to Saraswati (Goddess of Knowledge) everyday but Laxmi

(Goddess of Wealth) only one day.

Do let me know what you think about this
