This is the common question that anyone asks each other in digital age and if you say no then be prepared for the comments.
What? You don’t have WIFI. You must be joking.
Connectivity has become to important these days that we require WIFI even at home.
When WIFI did not exist
Now lets go back a little in the history and look at how life was before WIFI.
- We woke up in the morning to alarm bells and not whatsapp message
- We tried to remember what we had to do for the day and not check who liked or commented on our pictures on facebook
- Once we reached home we tried to relax and disconnect
- Dinner time was with family and not with mobile
- We ate food and had family discussions not whatsapp conversations
Life has changed, isn't it?
Current Scenario
Can we say that these days the full form of WIFI can be said as Whatsapp Important Facebook Important. Atleast that is how we have become even at our homes.
STD calls may have dropped but Stress, Tension and Depression has definitely increased. The reason is very simple. We are highly connected to the external world.
We also see that sleep disorders is on the rise and its because we are awake till late night to be connected and then wake up early next day as we have to go to office, college, school, etc. This takes a toll on our health.
What is getting missed?
We have progressed in technology and we can connect with anyone online but we have definitely disconnected ourselves offline.
The distance between us and our loved ones is increasing day by day. We loved speaking face to face with our family members when we reached home but WIFI has changed that. Though we are at home, we continue to be disconnected from the family and connected on mobile.
The 2 cases on rise these days are
- Divorce
- Loneliness in Elders, Adults and Kids
I guess many of us will say that life has become like that

Have we made it like that?
We are the ones using technology and mobile phones. We have only lost control over our usage and have got addicted to being connected externally all the time. There is no doubt that the external forces are also responsible but the reaction is our choice.
What can we do to change?
I fell that it’s the change in the mindset that is required and the below questions can help.
- What is important for me?
- Can I be time bound on the mobile usage?
- Is it necessary at this time?
A Change in Outlook
Instead of the WIFI (Whatsapp Important Facebook Important) which is the current trend, can we change this to WIFI i.e. Wife Important Family Important. Through the day we are all mostly out at our workplaces but at least once home, we can control of external connectivity and give time to
our internal connections.
I believe that if we can manage to do that then the stress and anxiety can stay away from us as we can share things with our family members and lighten ourselves.
