Why Learning Is So Hard And What You Can Do About It?

I don’t know how many of you remember these 3 letters IIN which, were heard or seen everywhere
in India. There were many TV ads and also radio commercials that were on air.

For those who don’t remember, look at the picture below and you may just remember.

As time goes by and new commercials/ads start to appear on Television we tend to forget the old
ads. I am not promoting Idea Internet Network here but trying to make a point.

Let’s look at the video below and you may just get a clue of what I am trying to say.

I hope you got the message. For those who did not still understand, let me clarify. The ad above shows that the guy wants to start a business but is unaware of how to do it. His friend refers him to IIN and he keeps learning and starts his own business.

What I liked about the ads though is that they were promoting Learning.

We start off at school as kids and hate studies, waiting to get out of school and into college. Then finally we finish studies and get onto our jobs. As we start to work in the corporate world, we start associating ourselves with the knowledge and position that we have gained. We tend to get into the comfort zone and suddenly one day as we are asked to learn new things/skills, we show resistance.

The reason though is very simple. Everyone loves their comfort zone and is happy with the knowledge that they possess. Now as you grow, your nature starts getting into rejection mode as learning takes effort and time. What we forget though is that learning is required at every step.

As I got these 3 letters in my mind IIN, the first thought was definitely Idea Internet Network but the second thought was Impossible Is Nothing. If you have the will to learn then you will learn.

As smile is a curve that sets everything right, in the similar way Learning is a curve that sets your life in the right direction. In short you don’t have to depend on people for the smaller things. I have seen a lot of adults, especially after the age of 40 being too rigid to learn new things.

I would urge you all, to always keep your mind open to learning. You may have a serious boss, an irritating friend, pestering neighbor, etc. Everyone teaches you something. If you can go beyond
the shouting, irritation and pestering, I guarantee you that you will only move forward.

Being a thief can put you in the path of the law but my friend, please learn to steal the good you see in others as its safe and soon it will be a part of your personality.

Lastly, I would say “There is no age to learn, if you have the will then you will find a way”.

Why You Need to Stop saying I Can't and Start saying I Can

DON’T BE A COPY…. BE ORIGINAL….

A word we all would have used at least sometimes in our lives “CAN’T”. Using

this word simply means I am unable to do this work/task. The question here is

  • Why can’t?
  • Are we born with this attitude?
  • Do we develop this attitude?
  • Can we do something to change this attitude early in life?

The simple answer is that we are not born with it. We develop this attitude

over a period of time. So how does this happen? As kids, when someone

asks us to do something, what’s our first reaction, “I will do it” or “I can do it”.

Children respond with their hearts and not with their minds. As we grow, a

new story starts to build. The attitude slowly changes from I CAN to I

CAN’T. This happens due to various reasons.

  • Parents Outlook
  • Peers Outlook
  • World Outlook
  • Lack of Self Confidence
There can also be many other reasons but a few common ones are listed

above

Parents Outlook

As kids we learn a lot from our parents. We speak like them, act like them,

understand like them and even react like them. If the parent has the “I CAN’T

ATTITUDE” for example: Your mother asked your father to come early but he

bluntly said “I CAN’T” without even knowing the reason, you tend to pick that

up. If mother argued then father would shout (Men’s Ego) and you even pick

that up.

Peers Outlook

As you move into the outside world, you make friends. If your friend is asked

to do something by his parents, for example: Skip a friend’s birthday party to

go out with them, he may give more importance to the friend’s birthday and

say “I CAN’T come out. If parents force then, he threatens them emotionally.

You see it working and pick that up.

World Outlook

We don’t live in paradise any more so you will find people to be non-co-

operative more than being co-operative, example: A blind man is crossing

the road and some uncle tells you to help the blind man cross the road. Now

you can help him but imagine we are on a call with a friend. We may miss

the  opportunity to help someone but not cut the call. Again here since we

have already learnt

I CAN’T attitude, we let the opportunity pass.

Lack of Self Confidence

Having a lot of friends and to hang out with them is fun. The question though

is “are they helping me build self-confidence? or wasting my time? Self-

confidence comes with a lot of practice and acceptance of the self.

A small Poem

'If you think you can do a thing, or you think you can't do a thing, you're

always right.'
Henry Ford

If you think you are beaten, you are.

If you think you dare not, you don't.

If you'd like to win but you think you can't, it's almost sure you won’t.

For out in the world you'll find success begins with a persons will.

It's all in the state of Mind.

Think big and your deeds will grow;

Think small and you fall behind.

Think that you can, and you will.

It's all in your state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.

You've got to think high to rise.

You've got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.

Life's battle doesn't always go to the stronger or faster one;

But sooner or later, the one who wins is the person who thinks they can.

Take out the T and do what?

That’s a nice question. The answer is very simple:
·         Change the T to TRY
·         Change the T to TRANSFORM
·         Change the T to TARGET

Some Encouragement

·         You will never know your real potential until you have TRIED
·         You will not be able to help yourself and others until you TRANSFORM your thoughts
·         You will never be able to reach anywhere in life until you TARGET

Understanding Knowledge the way it is

We have read a lot about the term KNOWLEDGE in our schools,

colleges, universities and even when we work or do business we hear this term.

Is it important to be Knowledgeful? I am sure many of you would say yes and some

could even disagree if they did not know what’s the importance of this term?

Let’s look at a few questions first

1) Is information and knowledge the same?
2) Should I have knowledge related to my work only?
3) Why should I gain knowledge as people who have just done schooling are good
    businessmen?

These are questions that need clarification before we move ahead.

Information & Knowledge – The difference

Information and knowledge look like the same but they are definitely different.

Information is everywhere & available in abundance. How much of that you put to

work is what is called Knowledge.

Knowledge Related to Work

In this case the choice is completely yours & depends on your capacity. I am sure

if you have additional knowledge it doesn’t go waste. It may be of use to you some

time later but it can be of use to others. After all human life is all about growth and

contribution. Isn’t it?

Knowledge is not only studies

I am sure many of us have attended schools & colleges and gained a lot of

knowledge. The question though is how much of it are we able to implement while

in real work scenario? Knowledge is not limited to only studies. We need to keep

learning new things life-long & then implementing them.

A Short story on knowledge

Maria was an intelligent and hardworking girl who loved to read books and always

excelled in her academic tests. One day during a class lecture, Maria’s teacher

asked the students, “Do you have any power?”

To this one of the students who always got first position in the school’s racing

competition, raised his hand and said, “Yes ma’am my power is in my legs, I can

run very fast!”

“Ok. Anyone else?” the teacher looked around waiting for some other answers.

Maria then raised her hand and said, “Ma’am I have the power of knowledge.

Whatever I have learnt from reading books and listening to classroom lectures, all

this has contributed towards increasing my knowledge and giving me more

wisdom.” As Maria finished, everyone in the classroom burst into laughter and

made fun of her.

The next day when Maria went to school, she saw a note on the notice board. ‘Who

is the most intelligent student of our school?’ the headline read. The notice was

about the annual quiz competition. Maria beamed with joy as she had found the

way to prove to her classmates that she really does have a power — the power of

knowledge!

The competition was to be held after a month so Maria engrossed herself in reading

books of general knowledge. She studied day and night and was very confident on

the day of the quiz.

The competition began and Maria responded to all questions correctly. She won the

quiz contest with 100 per cent marks and got the title of ‘The most intelligent

student of the school’. Along with this title, she also got a trophy and two years’

100 per cent fee waiver.

The classmates of Maria were astonished at her success and were looking at her

with embarrassment on their faces.

Maria went towards them and said, “My dear friends, physical strength is not the

only power — real power lies in knowledge which does not weaken even with the

passage of time.”

If you would have realized after reading all this is that Knowledge is important but did you wonder why the title of this was “KNOWLEDGE is LAMP”

LAMP is divided into 4 words i.e. LIGHT, AWARENESS, MIGHT, POWER.

 For a blind man, Knowledge is Light

 For an inquisitive child Knowledge is Awareness

 For an Aged Person knowledge is Might

 For a young working professional or businessman Knowledge is Power

There are other powers also like Nuclear Power, Money Power, Status Power, etc.

but as we start to grow from childhood isn’t Knowledge the first power we get?

That’s why we pray to Saraswati (Goddess of Knowledge) everyday but Laxmi

(Goddess of Wealth) only one day.

Do let me know what you think about this

The 2 most important aspects of any relationship

LA. Any guess what LA could be?

I am sure when you say LA, the first thing that comes to mind is LOS

ANGELES. It is indeed a lovely place.

So what do we want in life?

Let’s look at the basics first: Food, Clothes, House, Car, Money, Good

bank balance. I am sure many of us have all of this. But the question

still remains, what is LA?

mein”. If not then please listen to it here. It’s an amazing song which

has been remixed a couple of times.

Now, what has this song got to do with LA?

Let’s take L first and elaborate. By now you have guessed it right

that L stands for LOVE. I am sure you agree with me that

everyone wants love. Even the animals, plants & environment. Have

you ever thought that despite of so many things we want like Good

food, house, clothes & all the other comforts then why was there no

song like “Har kisi ko nahin milta yahan paisa (money) zindagi mein”

or “Har kisi ko nahin milta yahan Kapde (clothes) zindagi mein. It’s

because if there is no love then all of this is waste.

A small story

Once 3 old men came to a house & rang the bell. The woman opened

the house & asked them to come in to have food. They checked if her

husband was at home. She said NO. They said that they would come

in once the husband comes home. When the husband comes home

she narrates everything. The husband asks the wife to call them inside

but they say only one can come. They introduce themselves as

LOVE, MONEY & HAPPINESS.

The lady goes inside & there is a discussion. The husband says let’s

call MONEY as they were poor. The little child says let’s call

HAPPINESS. The lady says let’s call LOVE as it binds relationships.

Then she goes out & calls LOVE & the other 2 also follow him. They

say that:

Wherever LOVE goes we go automatically behind him.

So LETS GIVE LOVE TO ALL & REST WILL FOLLOW

AUTOMATICALLY LIKE A SHADOW

Note: Here we refer to the feeling & not the physical aspect.

That’s not the real love. Love others & Love will come back to

you. It has to be unconditional, though.

Now let’s look at A. It stands for Acceptance. If you give love

then acceptance is the part of Love. We all are different, isn’t it? We

look different, we act different, we even express differently.

Then why is it that when we behave or express differently there is no

acceptance. I am sure you want to be accepted the way you are. We

are rich or poor, dark or fair, intelligent or less intelligent by the way we

have been brought up or the financial conditions but all this is

secondary.

Acceptance does not mean we hug people or adopt them. It simply

means that we should accept the differences & make them feel that

they are accepted.

We may be rich now but even we can turn poor. We may be young

now but even we can turn old. We may be brilliant now but even we

can turn dumb someday.

Finally all I have to say that LAW OF GIVING makes a lot of

difference here because what you give is what you get.

So next time

  • If your Mother needs help, help her
  • Your Grandparents need time & patience, give it
  • Your colleagues need understanding, please understand

Do add your valuable feedback if you agree and do share the good

word and let’s make this world a better place to live in.
